Points of interest along this hiking trail

This walk goes between open ground and glades with panoramic views and memorable natural places. Along the trail you will also find nice stretches into the wood where you will cross the Integral Natural Reserve Lastoni Pezzi.

Tour description

Go along via Navene Vecchia from Malcesine towards the cable car station, take the first street on the right after the small roundabout and before the cableway.

When you are at the junction, go up on the right, then go straight on and keep going up until you reach the Via Panoramica. Go left along some hairpin turns and take the street on the left, when you are in front of the Panorama Hotel go on the left again, following road signs to Fiabi (Malgo Fiabio), San Maggiore.

Keep going up on the left on a paved road, then on a white road until you reach the wood: this part is quite demanding and steep with some paved sections. It leads you to Fiabi (Malga Fiabio).

When you get to the fields of Fiabi, take path no. 7 on your left for Piombi. Path no. 7 is very beautiful and varied and after about an hour and a half will bring you to Piombi cutting across part of the Nature Reserve “Lastoni Selva Pezzi”.

At the start you cross the wood and the Marola Valley and then you start to climb through woods and past panoramic view points over Lake Garda and the peaks and gullies of Monte Baldo. The path alternates between earthy tracks and stoney paths.

Keep on the left at the first junction with path n. 5 to Valdritta and, at the second junction with path n. 2 towards Tratto Spino.

Once you get to the clearing at Piombi, go straight on along path n.2 to reach the paved street in Prai in about an hour. This street will lead you to San Michele going past the Capitello del Signor.

You can catch the cable car from San Michele to Malcesine.

Variant to go back to Malcesine by feet

Continue downhill on the main road north of the station. Once on panoramica road, in Passo Campiano, turn right and at the end of the first descent turn left. Keep descending following indications for Malcesine. From Paier enter the muletrack that in 15 minutes takes you to Malcesine at the same crossroad you took at the beginning of the tour.

Our suggestions

Once you get to Piombi, immediately after Rifugio Forestale Piombi (which is now closed), leave the path and turn left towards south-west. You will get to a panoramic terrace above Lake Garda.
