Walking is a simple and natural movement; walking in the mountains, in close contact with nature is the best you can have for both your body and mind.
Needless to say that, from the shores up to the summit of Mount Baldo, Lake Garda offers an infinite variety of itinerary and paths of different length but suitable for all kind of need and level of training.
There’s a cable car leading you from Malcesine to Tratto Spino on the top of Mount Baldo. The Malcesine Monte Baldo cable car is open 10 months a year while it is closed for maintenance before and at the end of summer.
There are short walks and paths with different places to stop and have a break not far from the cable car station where you can relax far away from your daily routine.
For sporty walkers, on the other hand, many other routes are available, and some of them are quite challenging.
You can find different routes in the hilly area, the majority of them are quite short and partly on tarmac but they are all suitable for anyone who feels like walking in a natural place far away from the crowdest shores.
As we’ve already done in other parts of this web site, we would like to remind you that the Prada/Costabella ski lift is still closed for renovation.
Mount Baldo trekking route
Our trekking section offers you all you need to know about the itineraries of this area, so that you can fully enjoy your trek. We have personally tried out and tracked these routes, took pictures of them, as well as written their descriptions.
Check regularly this section as we constantly keep it up to date with new itineraries.
Here are some must-do routes for Mount Baldo. Sentiero del Ventrar (Ventrar path) is one of the most renowned botanical heaven in this area. We suggest you to take a walk northwards to reach the Mount Altissimo in Nago where you can enjoy the Sentiero della Pace (Peace path), an amazing view and a nice break at Danny's D. Chiesa refuge.
If you move southwards, on the other hand, you can follow two different itineraries, challenging but appealing, in order to discover the unexpected side of Mount Baldo with its typical Alpine athmosphere. The first is path n.5 going up to Cima Valdritta whereas the second is path 654 to Cima Telegrafo.
Walking southward, you have the Naole Peaks tour: easier but very panoramic.
Walk in the mountains safely
Remember that the mountain and its vast natural areas deserve respect and preservation. Follow the basic behaviour rules in order to fully enjoy this enviroment and learn how to read the mountain signs of the places you wish to visit.
As the CAI (Italian Alpine Club) motto says "Walking to know and preserve"
Walking is a philosophy, it is about looking for nature and discovering the cultural side of the environment. It’s about meeting and immersing yourself in the environment and its culture. The hiker, who is the modern walker of paths, is entrusted with the responsability of preserving a priceless cultural and environmental heritage as well as its historical memory.”
Mount Baldo is a place to discover, we are sure the variety of paths will not deceive you.
Our advice is to leave the crowdest places and try to get in close contact with nature.
