Point of interest along this route

The Steps Walk Busatte-Tempesta is one of the most well-known and used paths in Alto Garda. The path is easy, with wonderful views and divided by three ladders with a total of 400 steps that are needed to take you over this steepest part of the coastal cliff.

The Paloni Path goes up through the woods and takes you back to Torbole following the electricity pylons. It’s medium difficulty, with some uphill parts being very steep and some downhill parts being quite slippery. There are wonderful views over Lake Garda, Riva and Torbole.

Tour description

From the Busatte Park car park, walk south going through the Park and take the path that goes uphill on the left between the BMX path and the adventure park.

You go gently uphill for about 20 minutes and this brings you to the first ladder of 116 steps “Salt della Cavra”.

Carry on on the easy path until the second set of steps “Corno di Bò”, the longest ladder with 238 steps.

Ahead of you is the last part of the path and the last ladder of only 33 steps which takes you to a crossroads with the forest road.

Going down the forest road for a few metres, after a large curve take the track going uphill on your left.

sentiero dei paloni partenza

Ahead of you is a beautiful track in the woods, quite steep, which brings you to the Paloni Path (length: c. 700m – going up 200m)

Turn left towards North and stay on the Paloni Path. At the fork in the path stay on the right going uphill. At the next crossing go straight on to do the last uphill part of the route, short but steep and it brings you to the start of the downhill part.

Keep straight on downhill for about 2km until you get back onto the original path that you started on. Walk north for another 600m to get back to the Start in the Busatte Park.

Variant

If you find the part between the first and second uphills too difficult, there are two shortcuts on your left that will bring you to the forest road and this ring road is decidedly easier.

Our suggestions

  • Don’t do this walk the other way round if you have problems with your knees or if you have problems with downhill paths.
  • The Paloni Path doesn’t have signs so you have to follow blue stamps on the ground.
  • The Step Walk is really busy even on holidays and out of season. Leave early in the morning or do the walk during the week if possible.
  • The steps Walk in summer is in the sunshine all day and gets quite hot: Leave early in the morning!
  • Bring something to drink and some energy food –  there are no fountains along this route or bars or restaurants.
