Points of interest along this bike trail
It is a beautiful circular route with little traffic, even in high season. The ascent is especially lovely, not too steep, which takes you through Lumini, a nice hamlet of San Zeno. Wonderful views and panoramas over Lake Garda and Monte Baldo are to be had during the whole ride.
Tour description
From San Zeno head downhill south along provincial road no. 9. When you have passed Castion Veronese, turn left in Via San Verolo, just after the road that takes you to the hamlet of that name. Go straight on through Pesina in the direction of Caprino on a mainly flat road. After the centre of Caprino, turn left into Via Aldo Moro on provincial road 29.
A nice ascent starts here, about 13km long and, as mentioned above, not too challenging. Follow provincial road no. 29 going through Rubiana until you get to Località Lumini. Here you go right keeping on road 29 which carries on gently uphill until a crossroads on a hairpin bend which brings you onto road no. 9.
Go right and carry on to Prada Alta. Carry on uphill for another 5km going through Prada until you get to Prada Alta to the car park of the Prada/Costabella chair lift where you will finish your uphill climb. Here you turn around and go back along road no. 9 downhill. At the Crossroads, go right downhill to get back to San Zeno di Montagna.
Variant
If you are tired, you can shorten the route by turning left at the crossroads on the hairpin bend after i Lumini. This brings you back to San Zeno di Montagna without going up to Prada.
Our suggestions
- The busiest part of this route is from San Zeno di Montagna to Caprino. As you go uphill it gets less busy. This really is a wonderful route to do if you want to be far from the busy summer traffic of Lake Garda.
- It is well worth stopping to visit Lumini.
The tour during the winter
You can cycle this route even in the winter. If it is very cold, we advise you not to go up the ascent to Prada.
Shelters, huts or bivouacs along the trail
There aren’t any but there are some bars along the road.

Safety information
Once at Prada Alta, we recommend that you don’t carry on but go back otherwise you will find yourself on the descent to Punta Velena which, because it is very steep, is quite dangerous to do downhill.
